Biodegradable Films from Kefiran-Based Cryogel Systems

Kefiran, which was isolated from kefir grains, used for the fabrication of cryogel-films in presence plasticizers, such as glycerol and sorbitol. Varying concentration ratios exopolysaccharide/plasticizer system were employed process cryogel-film formulation their effect on physical (film thickness, moisture content, solubility) mechanical (tensile strength elongation at break) properties films monitored. Kefiran-film vapor adsorption isotherms calculated, a thermal analysis samples also performed. The structural characteristics observed using confocal laser scanning microscopy. cryo-treatment, alongside plasticizer addition, affected kefiran films, well morphology. Increasing resulted increasing film tensile strength, while decreased solubility break. by concentration, use concentration. showed stability. plasticizers increment decreasing glass transition melting temperatures. cryo-treatment appearing smoother. Glycerol proved to affect more than sorbitol–water morphology films.
